Kaizer Chiefs star Edson Castillo will miss the upcoming Copa America after not being included in Venezuela’s 30-man preliminary squad.
Castillo, 30, who joined the club from Monagas SC, started the campaign like a house on fire, scoring five goals in his first three months at Amakhosi.
With his powerful runs into the box and a massive leap in the air, Castillo was somewhat seen as a heading expert.
His performance with Chiefs earned him a recall to the Venezuela squad and he featured in three substitute appearances in the November and March windows.
However, after somewhat struggling at Chiefs in 2024, and starting from the bench in six of their last nine games, Castillo has now been dropped by Fernando Batista.
The La Vinotinto opted against calling up Castillo to his 30-man preliminary Copa America squad, which will be a massive blow for the Chiefs midfielder.
Below is Venezuela’s 30-man squad in full:

Castillo has made nine appearances, scoring one goal since breaking into the Venezuela squad in 2021.
