Chiefs Suffer Another Shock Defeat

Kaizer Chiefs suffered another shock defeat, going down to 2-0 to Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Amakhosi had the chance to move up the log after the likes of Polokwane City and AmaZulu had dropped points but Nasreddine Nabi’s side failed to live up to their favourites tag.

Chiefs had the first notable chance of the match after 21 minutes, but Ashley Du Preez’s header from close range was easily saved by Salim Magoola.

In the 35th minute, Pule Mmodi had a shot from outside the box parried after a fine move from the back to the front by the visitors.

Given Msimango saw his header following a corner sail past the post after 39 minutes as Chiefs tried to find an opener before the break.

However, both sides went goalless into the break, and Richards Bay punished Chiefs for their poor finishing early in the second when Fezile Gcaba headed home a corner to give his side a lead somewhat against the run of play.

Chiefs tried to pile on the pressure but failed to create anything tangible other than a header by Glody Lilepo after 65 minutes.

However, it was the home side who put more misery on Nabi’s side when Yanela Mbuthuma scored the rebound off the post, although clearly coming from an offside position.

The only good news for the Glamour Boys on a borrowed afternoon was the return of Edson Castillo, who made his first appearance since suffering a broken fibula in October.

The win saw the Natal Richboyz climb in 11 place with 24 points, while Chiefs stayed eighth with 29.
