Kaizer Chiefs were held to goalless draw by Polokwane City in the league at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, however extended their points gap to fourth-placed AmaZulu after moving .
Meanwhile, City remained in seventh place with 34 points both 24 matches. Chiefs enjoyed possession from the early stages and even threatened the City goal in the second minute through a combination play between Glody Lilepo and Flavio Silva with the latter missing the target.

Four minutes later it was Thabiso Monyane from outside the box but his shot went over the bar. In the eighth minute Chiefs won a set-piece after Monyane was brought down just outside the box, Lilepo stepped up and his ball was punched away for a corner.
Rise and Shine then took the game to their visitors with Thabang Matuludi proving to be a handful providing crosses from the right. The Bafana Bafana international set-up Bonginkosi Dlamini in the 18th minute but Dlamini missed the target. Ndamuleleo Maphangule and Mokibelo Ramabu also came close to scoring for City just before the half hour mark and were denied by Brandon Petersen.
There was an opportunity for Mduduzi Shabalala to break the deadlock just before halftime but his shot was saved by Lindokuhle Mathebula leaving the game 0-0 at halftime.
The sides didn’t make changes at the start of the second stanza. It took nine minutes for Chiefs to have a goal on target in the half after Shabalala found Lilepo whose final action was an easy save for the City goalkeeper.
The home side responded immediately and won a corner in the 55th minute, Ramabu swung it into the box and Petersen cleared the ball off the line. Dlamini also had a late chance to score for City from outside the box with a powerful shot but it slightly missed the target.
Chiefs won two set-pieces soon after and couldn’t capitalize on either as Given Msimango headed a Gaston Sirino provided kick wide in the first one and Lilepo’s took a deflection.
Both sides kept interchanging possession and when it fell for City, Dlamini inside the box and only the keeper to beat he slipped in the box.
Despite dropping points, Chiefs extended their lead over fourth-placed AmaZulu to seven points with a game in hand. They are 12 points behind leaders Orlando Pirates, who they will face in the Soweto Derby next Sunday.
