Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro says there will be no emotions attached when he faced his former club in a sold-out Toyota Stadium on Saturday.
Chivaviro, 31, scored 17 goals in his one season at Gallants before earning a reported R6-million for Chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 season.
While he struggled to replicate his form that saw Gallants rise to the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, there’s optimism this season that new head coach Nasreddine Nabi will bring out improved individual and collective performances.
“I wouldn’t say it will be an emotional game, I’m a professional. Yes it’s my former team and like you said I scored 17 goals for Marumo but I was at work and so is the case right now, I’ll be at work,” Chivaviro said.
“The Kaizer Chiefs fans are the biggest stakeholders of his club, the more the merrier, the more they come and supporters, the more they give us the morale and boost to do well.”
Chivaviro, who netted six goals during pre-season ahead of the clash against Gallants in Bloemfontein says the Amakhosi faithful who will come out in their numbers can expect a different side that finished 10th in the league in his debut season.
“Playing for Kaizer Chiefs there will always be expectations, and what we want to say to the fans is that we wanna be doing better than last season, they will be watching beautiful football and accompanied by good results,” he adeed.
“We owe [the fans] so much, we’re preparing to make them happy this season, we’re conscious of where we were last season. For a club like Chiefs, we should be up there.”
The two sides kick off at the 17h30.
