Cape Town City suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Milford FC in the opening match of the PSL promotion playoffs at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The game started with both sides aiming to play through the middle but the way it was packed it made it difficult to play. City kept the ball in the first 15 minutes; Milford kept on shifting not opening any spaces.
Milford were awarded a penalty in the 21st minute after Cape Town City goalkeeper Micky Van Der Hart fouled Mvelo Zikakayo inside the box. Siphosethu Ndlabi stepped up and converted the penalty.
City kept on pushing for the equalizer, Emile Witbooi played a pass to Jaeden Rhodes who played a great cross that found Therlo Moosa in the box, but his header went wide with 37 minutes gone.
Milford FC led 1-0 going into the break. Cape Town City with a lot to fight for in the second half.
Second half kicked off, City looking for that important equalizer but no changes from the bench.
Witbooi combined well with Rhodes and Moosa inside the box, but Witbooi’s shot was saved by Siphamandla Hleza after the 60th minute. Milford still led 1-0.
City kept on pushing, introduced Heaven Seeretse and Prince Tjueza. Seeretse immediately made an impact after a great pass to Moosa who laid it to Rhodes, but his shot went over the crossbar.
Final whistle went and Milford walked away with three massive points.
City will face Magesi FC on the weekend away from home as their search for three points continues.
