Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that its club legends are set for a trip to neighbouring Botswana where they will partake in the 4th annual Clash of Legends tournament at the National Stadium in Gaborone.

Amakhosi, alongside Orlando Pirates Legends, will be joined in the one-day tournament by Botswana’s very own legends of Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs on Saturday, 20 June.

The extravaganza tournament will be divided into four games played on the day, two semi-finals, a third-place play-off and then the final.

Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, expressed gratitude after the club received an invitation for the club legends’ presence at the tourney in Gaborone.

“We always look for new opportunities for our club to interact with our fans. This tournament provides that and we are pleased to be participating amongst a strong field. Hopefully, the fans will get to see a Soweto Derby in Botswana,” she told the club’s official website.

“This year, Clash of Legends takes a new and exciting direction,” the Clash of Legends project coordinator, Sekhana Lawrence Kokohe revealed.

“For the first time, we transition from national team legends to club football legends, a move that reflects the deep-rooted rivalries, memories and emotions that club football has created over generations across Southern Africa.”

‘Yeye Will Give Us Some Insight’

Thabo Mooki, the Amakhosi Legends coach, has welcomed the challenge to once again lead his charges saying:

“We have played many games around South Africa, yet this is my first with the team in Botswana. We are hoping to connect with the fans there and, importantly, to win the competition.

“We have Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who coaches in Botswana, and he will give us some insight into our opponents.”

The tournament kicks off with the first game getting underway in the morning at 10:00, the second semi-final taking place at 12:00, while the third-place game is at 16:00 and the final at 18:00.

The two Soweto giants are expected to reveal their traveling squads in the next coming days.
