Dolly – What Makes Sundowns Hard To Stop

Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Keagan Dolly has explained why the club is so hard to stop as they chase a ninth successive league title.

Dolly, 33, is currently on the books of Cape Town City, but played for and against Sundowns during his impressive career at saw him win the league, CAF Champions League, earn a move to France with Montpellier, before returning back to South Africa.

He joined Kaizer Chiefs back in 2021 after four years in Ligue 1 and went on the represent TS Galaxy before joining the Citizens at the start of the 2025/26 season.

With Sundowns now back to the summit of the table and on a seven-match winning run in the league, there’s suggestions they will now go on and retain the title, despite the incredible form of Orlando Pirates – who are neck and neck with Masandawana this season.

“Even if you know [the players], the club is so good and doing, what they do – even if the opposition knows how they play, but because they stick to their guns and don’t change anything for anyone, no matter who they play in Africa or a lower division team, they don’t change, they play the same way,” Dolly explained on the Pitchside Podcast.

“That’s the most important thing, when you stick to the [game] model and what you’re good at, nobody can take it away, even if you make mistakes – you know what you’re doing.

“The team know how good they are at what they do and when they do it the right way. The same with us back in the day, the first five or six games we’d be fighting, losing, drawing. But once you get that momentum and you understand each other you go into every game knowing you will get a goal.”

Sundowns are now preparing for the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final against Stade Malien on Friday evening.
