Done deal: Mothiba Lands New Club

South Africa international striker Lebo Mothiba has penned a short-term deal with Mamelodi Sundowns until the end of the season.

Mothiba, 29, has been a free agent since parting ways with Ligue 1 club RSC Strasbourg in the off-season where he spent six years at.

He’s return of 20 goals and six assists in 96 games didn’t make for bad reading, his injury troubles, having suffered a recurring knee injury saw the two parties agree for a new venture.

After links with several clubs in Europe and a move to Standard Liege falling through, Mothiba spent time in Germany with Karlsruher SC before resurfacing at Sundowns.

Returning to his boyhood club in January for a training stint, Mothiba has now impressed the technical team over the last few months and has subsequently agreed to sign a contract until the end of the current season, with an option to extend.

While he’s not quite close to being ready to feature for the first-team, there’s optimism that he could still reach full fitness in the next month to don the colours of the club where he footballing journey began prior to his move to Europe via Diambars Academy.
