Dortley On How He’ll Deal With Pressure At Chiefs

New Kaizer Chiefs signing Rushwin Dortley says he knows there is a lot of pressure that comes with playing for his new club but he will be able to absorb it.

The versatile defender is one of the four new players who have joined Amakhosi this window, having joined from related Cape Town Spurs.

The 22-year-old arrived at Naturena after their worst season in the league where they finished outside the top eight for the first time, which extended their trophy drought to nine seasons.

But Amakhosi are under new coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has been tasked with reviving the side. Dortley told iDiski Times writer Sinethemba Makonco in edition 165 of the newspaper that pressure is part of the game but he is not intimidated by it.

“Look, Chiefs is one of the biggest clubs in the country” Dortley told IDiski Times.

“And they have a lot of supporters and there’s going to be pressure and it’s part of football. That will at the end of the day help you to improve your game. And it’s going to be tough, but you have to be mentally strong. And I think I can handle it.

The South African international also has a message to the club fan base with a promise to do his best in black and gold.

“For me, my message to Kaizer Chiefs fans is that I will come there and do my best!” added Dortley.

“I’ll do my best to deliver at the back, to keep goals out. And going forward to contribute, going forward to scoring goals in set-pieces. But mainly that they will know that there is someone at the back that will work and that will do his best!”
