Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula has revealed that head coach Jose Riveiro always reminds him of how important his position and role is in the team.
Makhaula admits that he plays in a position that hardly gets recognition, however that’s where most of the work is done to stop opposing sides from scoring and also supplies Pirates attackers to get goals.
Speaking to iDiski Times senior writer, Velile Mnyandu in edition 165 of the newspaper, the 34-year-old said it doesn’t bother him that he doesn’t get praise because his coach knows him and other midfielders are doing an important job, and that is enough for him.

“For me, the coach is always reminding me that your role is really important,” Makhaula told iDiski Times.
“They can shine and score goals but they don’t know who is stopping the opponents to come and score or who is starting the play to give the Reles and the Maswanganyis the ball. I think Coach is always reminding us all – the midfielders that’s your role, ‘guys, it’s really important because it is in the heart of the pitch’.
“I don’t normally get credit (chuckles) but I know that the coach is always encouraging me. So, if I get it from the coach and the players then that’s enough for me. One day they will recognise it.”
