Durban City have advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup after completing a 3-1 aggregate victory over Rukinzo of Burundi.

The Citizens entered the second leg in Bujumbura with a 1-0 advantage after winning the first leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium, courtesy of Gaston Sirino’s strike.

Durban City wasted little time extending their lead, with Kyle Jurgens heading home from a cross in the opening minute to make it 2-0 on aggregate.

Samkelo Maseko added a second goal in the 37th minute following a neat combination with Jurgens and Sirino, putting Khalil Ben Youssef’s side firmly in control.

In the second half, the home side pulled one back to reduce deficit, but it wasn’t enough as Durban City saw out the tie and booked their place in the next round.

They will face Mauritius-based Port Louis, who advanced after defeating Botswana’s Jwaneng Galaxy 2-1 on aggregate.

Durban City will now turn into the Betway Premiership outing against Orlando Pirates on Thursday, 17 September at Orlando Amstel Arena.
