Du Preez Sets Clear Target After Chiefs Return

Kaizer Chiefs star Ashley du Preez could not hide his delight after returning from injury and has set a clear target for 2024.

The 26-year-old forward has become a clear fan favourite at Amakhosi since his R10-million transfer from Stellenbosch in July 2022.

And it’s been showcased as he made the PSL All Star XI as voted by the fans despite missing the last few weeks for Chiefs with an injury.

With 12 goals and seven assists in 44 games in all competitions, Du Preez feels he needs to improve those numbers as they target more consistency in their results.

“The three back-to-back games we’ve won has been amazing for the team, that’s what we want, we want to continue with this winning mentality,” Du Preez said ahead of the Sekhukhune game as they look for four consecutive victories.

“So we want to win the next game, the last game of the year, we want to go out there and enjoy ourselves, get three points and end the year on a high note – I think for us as a team it’s about striving to do better and win games.

“I’m going to work extremely [hard] to help the team get three points to end this year on a high note, it’s nice to be back from injury. It’s a huge setback to be injured, mentally it can be frustrating – it’s nice to be back and to get minutes against Richards Bay.

“I’m happy we won the game – I’m almost fully back 120%, so to play a few minutes was nice, touching the ball with the team, in front of the fans – I loved it. Now it’s to get goals to help the team win – it’s my ambition for 2024, score more goals.”

Du Preez will be pushing for a start when Amakhosi face Sekhukhune tomorrow at the Peter Mokaba Stadium (19h30).
