Du Preez Shares Views On New Chiefs Recruits

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez says the new signings and young talent promoted to the squad have impressed and have integrated well into the squad.

There’s been mixed reception from the club’s supporters heading into their league opener against Stellenbosch this weekend at Athlone Stadium, after their pre-season in the Netherlands and Toyota Cup defeat on penalties to Asante Kotoko.

The 1-0 win over PEC Zwolle was their only victory in the off-season games, that were made public out of the six games played and while head coach Nasreddine Nabi said it’s not about results, there will be pressure to deliver against a strong Stellies outfit on Sunday.

“The new players and young players from the DDC have been doing great, the coach saw what they are capable of doing and we as seniors, we’re here for the young players to motivate them every day,” Du Preez said.

“We’re here to let them know what the club is all about and what we want to achieve together.  So, we’re looking forward to the new players also coming in, combining with us throughout the season – they’ve been looking good, all of them and we’re excited to play as a team together.”

Chiefs signed Nkanyiso Shinga, Thabiso Monyane and Paseko Mako as full-back recruits, Ethan Chislett, Siphesihle Ndlovu as new midfield options and Flavio Silva in attack thus far.

The deals for Etiosa Ighodaro, Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi remains in the balance over contractual disputes with Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town Spurs respectively.

However, Du Preez, a marquee signing for Amakhosi from Stellenbosch three seasons ago, is raring to go and wants to contribute to the cause with a positive start to the 2025/26 campaign.

“It’s always good playing against them, I played for them, they helped me to get where I am today, so it’s always nice to have a game against Stellenbosch, going to Cape Town, I’m familiar with the weather, with everything in Cape Town,” he said.

“To play against them, I’m always excited, mindset is on a high, when I play Stellies I’m 100% ready, fully focused, so I’d like to start the season against Stellenbosch with some goals and assists…”
