Ertugral Set To Take Over At Betway Prem Side

Former Kaizer Chiefs & Ajax Cape Town head coach Muhsin Ertugral is set to be confirmed as the new man in charge at Cape Town City after Eric Tinkler’s exit.

After three seasons in charge, Tinkler was released from his head coach duties at City following a poor run of results. In the last three seasons, Tinkler led City to second, fourth, and fifth-place finishes.

Despite the good record of being a team that finishes in the top four, the recent results of losing five league games and being close to the relegation zone led to his sacking.

This publication has established that Ertugral is set to be announced as the new man in charge at City for the remainder of the season.

The 65-year-old Turkish mentor is not new to South African football having coached Kaizer Chiefs, Santos, Ajax Cape Town, Golden Arrows, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Maritzburg United, and Orlando Pirates.

In fact, Ertugral was meant to be City’s first coach after John Comitis bought the Black Aces franchise back in 2016, but instead, Ertugral went on to join Pirates. Tinkler, who had just left Pirates, became City’s first-ever coach instead. Now, nine years later, Ertugral will finally lead City, ironically replacing Tinkler, who was at the club for a second stint.

The former Chiefs coach is known for giving youngsters opportunities to showcase their talent, and City has a lot of young good players which could be an opportunity for all of them.

He is expected to be on the bench when City welcomes Chiefs at DHL Stadium this coming Sunday afternoon, with Lebogang Manyama and Diogo Perel as assistants.
