Official: CT City Appoint Former Chiefs Coach

Cape Town City have officially appointed Muhsin Ertugral as their interim Head Coach for the remainder of the 2024/25 campaign, as first reported by iDiski Times.

The Citizens parted ways with Tinkler after three seasons, which was his second stint at the club, following a string of poor results which saw him win just three matches in 10 outings, losing five and drawing two.

On Thursday morning, City made the announcement of Ertugral’s appointment via the club’s social media pages.

City announced they had parted ways with Eric Tinkler on Tuesday, and they have now confirmed the 65-year-old Turkish-German as his replacement.

He will continue to work with assistant coaches Diogo Peral and Lebogang Manyama.

Ertugral was meant to be City’s first coach after John Comitis bought the Mpumalanga Black Aces franchise back in 2016, but instead, Ertugral went on to join Orlando Pirates.

Tinkler, who had just left Pirates, became City’s first-ever coach instead.

Now, nine years later, Ertugral will finally lead City, ironically replacing Tinkler, who was at the club for a second stint.

Ertugral has not recently led a club, having spent the past few years working as the Technical Advisor for the Turkish national team.

It is believed that Ertugral has been appointed Sporting Director at City but will be the caretaker coach until they can find their ideal candidate.

The Turkish mentor is expected to be in the dugout when City welcome Kaizer Chiefs to the DHL Stadium on Sunday, 5 January.
