Stellenbosch FC youngster Tylon Smith has signed his first professional contract with the club at the age of 19.
The towering centre-back, who is a local Stellenbosch boy hailing from Jamestown, has been rewarded for his efforts with the DStv Diski Challenge squad where he played part in their Engen Knockout, Engen Champ of Champs, and DDC triumphs last season.
Despite having already featured for the senior side as an unused substitute during Stellies’ Nedbank Cup encounter against Milford FC last season, and the recent CAF Confed Cup matches against Nsingizini Hotspurs and AS Vita, the Amajita defender, only just put pen-to-matter now and will rub shoulders with the big boys as he looks to nail down a match-day berth and eventually the starting lineups.
“I am incredibly happy and proud to have signed my first professional contract with Stellenbosch FC,” an elated Smith told the club’s website.
“It wasn’t an easy journey to get to this point, but it crowns an incredible year for me as a 19-year-old after getting promoted and having had the opportunity to represent South Africa at the U-20 COSAFA championships.

“The next step for me is to help the first team, hopefully to win more trophies, and I can promise the Club and our supporters that I will show the hard work, winning mentality, and fighting spirit that is needed to succeed at Stellenbosch FC.”
He was part of coach Raymond Mdaka’s recent COSAFA Cup squad that won the U20 Championship in Mozambique where he was named as Man of the Match in the final and also made the Team of the Tournament.
