TS Galaxy moved up to third place, while Kaizer Chiefs, who moved back into the top eight after their 1-1 draw at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday evening.
Coming into the game with a run of inconsistent form and a loss to Golden Arrows, up against fourth-placed Galaxy, looking to get into third place, they come in as underdogs on the form guide.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has come under major scrutiny but with three changes from each side, Amakhosi managed to grind a victory, profiting from a defensive error from the vistors.
Solomon Letsoenyo’s poor pass went straight to Gaston Sirino and clean through on goal, but his effort was saved at point blank range by Galaxy stopper Ira Tape, before Wandile Duba managed to fire the rebound in to open the scoring and go into the break 1-0 in the lead.
Chiefs should have been clear early into the second stanza, with Sirino missing another clear chance to put them ahead and Glody Lilepo earlier with the goal at his mercy.
And they were made to pay for their missed chances, as his been the storyline for most of this 2024/25 season, when Galaxy captain Mlungisi Mbunjana levelled matter with a tap-in after Chiefs failed to clear their lines from a corner.
The point moved Chiefs back into eighth ahead of Chippa with 30 points in 24 games, and three points off third-placed Stellenbosch, while Galaxy moved above Stelenbosch by one point, moving to 36 points in 25 games.
