Gallants Take Action And Suspend Coach

Marumo Gallants have announced the immediate suspension of head coach Alexandre Lafitte after a run of seven defeats across all competitions.

The 28-year-old arrived at the club with an impressive reputation as the replacement for Abdeslam Ouaddou – who departed for Orlando Pirates – having won the Ligue 1 in Ivory Coast with Stade Abidjan and returned them to the CAF Champions League.

After an impressive start in the league, it appeared a masterstroke for the club – who also reached the Carling Knockout Cup final, where they eventually lost to the Buccaneers.

However, recently since the return from the mid-season Africa Cup of Nations break, form has declined with the club sliding down the table into a relegation battle and out of the Nedbank Cup.

“The suspension follows issues relating to a failure to comply with contractual duties. The Club has also not been performing to the expected standard in recent fixtures,” the club statement read on Monday morning.

“The Club takes matters of governance, professionalism, and accountability seriously. As such, the necessary internal processes are being followed in line with the Club’s policies and contractual obligations.

“Management is concerned about the team’s current poor performance and will be announcing the acting Head Coach in due course.”
