‘Give Nabi Time Like Downs Did With Pitso’

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Lehlohonolo Majoro believes that his former side should learn from their rivals and keep coach Nasreddine Nabi a little longer as it could benefit the club.

The Tunisian tactician joined Amakhosi at the start of the season on a two-year deal with an option to renew but he has experienced indifferent results, being knocked out of the Carling Cup in the first half of the season.

Chiefs are currently in a fight to get back into the top eight, sitting in ninth place on the log with 30 points, while having qualified for the Nedbank Cup final. There is growing pressure on Nabi after six league games without a win but the qualification for the Nedbank Cup final, which all but means CAF Confederations Cup as well has eased some of that.

Speaking to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 202 of the newspaper Major said Chiefs should take a leaf out of Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates books on keeping a coach longer.

“I think there’s still a long way for Kaizer Chiefs to go,” Majoro told iDiski Times.

“If they keep coach Nabi for longer, it will be a plus for them because if you can check with Sundowns, it allowed itself to have a rebuilding phase where they were building under Coach Pitso [Mosimane]. There was a time when Sundowns supporters were booing Coach Pitso, throwing bottles at him. That was when he was still building.

“He was building for three seasons, and then ever since those three seasons, Sundowns has evolved into becoming the team to beat in our league and also in Africa. Orlando Pirates, they also kept the coach for longer, and they gave themselves an opportunity to build. So the reason I’m saying Chiefs should keep coach Nabi for longer, it will also give them the opportunity to build.

“I know it’s not easy for those three teams. They expect each and every game that is played to be won. Sometimes, football does not have shortcuts. Football will expose you as an individual if you’re not doing things the right way.”
