SuperSport United goalkeeper Ricardo Goss believes the club will be ‘formidable’ next season after several young prospects were introduced this season.
It’s been a tumultuous campaign for SuperSport who had finished third last season and qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup.
The strain of travelling the continent clearly affected their domestic consistency but as they enter the 2023/24 DStv Premiership finale, fourth remains on the cards.
“It was disappointing to concede against Sekhukhune like that, we should have actually won that game but anyway, it’s been a while since we’ve [go three clean sheets] in a row, I doubt we had three in a row last season,” Goss said ahead of the Orlando Pirates clash.
“But it’s a good feeling, credit must also go to the defence, I don’t do it alone, they chip in when I’m not there, I chip in when they not there.”
Over 10 youngsters have been introduced into the first-team by Gavin Hunt, while several others also made their debuts like Samukelo Xulu, Keagan Allan and Risen Albert, after joining the club.
The likes of Ime Okon, Bilal Baloyi, Gape Moralo, Shandre Campbell have also become regular features in the first-team under Gavin Hunt.
“The boys look good, we’re obviously on a good run, everyone is feeling good there’s a lot of smiles [in the camp] and we wanna end [the season] off in a good way and try and get that fourth place,” Goss added.
“We’ve introduced a lot of youngsters and look where we are on the log you know, obviously we’ve had a lot of games in CAF and everything, but they’ve got some experience now and a lot of good talent coming up now.
“I think it’s one thing we can pride ourselves of this season, there were many debuts and they are doing very well, next season it will be a pretty formidable team. Obviously, we’re not in the same position as last season.
“But look we’ve had a lot of games and the fans must just keep supporting us, just want the band to come earlier to the game, we need them behind our backs, we need them.”
The two sides meet on Saturday afternoon at Orlando Stadium at 15h00.
