Hlungwani Gives Verdict On Chiefs’ Disputed Penalty In Arrows Loss

Former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani says Kaizer Chiefs‘ much talked-about penalty against Golden Arrows was correctly awarded by Luxolo Badi.

Amakhosi were awarded a 10th minute penalty after Glody Lilepo was fouled inside the 18-yard box which was missed by captain Yusuf Maart as Chiefs went on lose the match 2-1, succumbing to their 10th Betway Premiership defeat of the season.

There were disputes on how much impact there was on the Congolese winger who seemed to tumble to the ground from a mere touch on his back.

“The Principal” has however since dissected the incident, saying the impact came from the leg as opposed to the hand on the back.

“He [Lilepo] gets into the box and then there’s a hand that goes to the back,” Hlungwani said on Soccerzone.

“Remember, we said the hand must have an impact. Now, there’s a hand that goes to the back. Does it have an impact, the answer is no!

“But let’s look on the ground. On the ground that’s where the impact comes in where it prevented him from moving forward.

“So, therefore correct decision by referee Badi to give a penalty in this situation.”
