New Esperance Sportive de Tunis head coach Maher Kanzari says the fact that Elias Mokwana plays for the club and Bafana Bafana shows the quality he possess.
Mokwana, 25, returns to South Africa for the first time in the CAF Champions League with Esperance, to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg quarter-final at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday afternoon.
He made the surprise switch to Taraji in the off-season from Sekhukhune United, where he emerged as one of the most sought after attackers, and broke into the senior national team in just his second season in the top-flight.
Having risen from the ABC Motsepe League with Platinum City Rovers, into the professional ranks, Mokwana has enjoyed a metoric rise to Africa’s elite in the space of four years.
“He’s a quality player no doubt about it if he’s playing for Bafana Bafana and a team like Esperance, it means he’s a really good player,” Kazari said about the winger.
“He was struggling a little bit in the beginning, the first two, three, month – but now he’s adapated himself and he has a lot of potential and he’s growing.
“If he continues doing that he can do the very best, he’s getting there as he adapts himself to the culture of Esperance.”
Mokwana has scored five goals with four assists to his name in 27 games for the Tunisian giants.
