AmaZulu attacking midfielder Rowan Human has revealed why he chose his current club over Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs saying his family’s concerns played a part.
Human had an opportunity to go play abroad when he was much younger and upon his return to the country joined Maritzburg United where he spent two years. There were reports prior his move to Usuthu that Amakhosi were courting him.
The 24-year-old confirmed this to iDiski Times senior journalist Lorenz Köhler in edition 195 where he revealed that his parents feared he might get swallowed by the Joburg lights and the enticement of working with a Spanish coach at AmaZulu at the time.
“I think, last-minute things, when I spoke to my family about everything” Human told iDiski Times.
“They said to me, ’At this point, we are not too sure about you coming back to Joburg, with everything that’s happening’. My parents are really scared that I might get sucked into the life of Joburg and want to be in Westbury every weekend, or something like that.
“So they were just really scared for me. I think my family was scared for me, and they just said to me, ‘No, stay in Durban, rather go to AmaZulu, where we feel like you’re safer, and you can go, you can learn there as well’.
“And also the fact that coach Pablo [Franco Martin] came in, I was thinking, a Spanish coach, there’s something to learn. If there’s a league that I love watching, it is LaLiga.
“So I thought here’s a Spanish coach, here’s the opportunity to learn what’s happening in that country. Because the way they play football, everyone wants to play the way the Spanish teams play football.”
