SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt admits losing Thapelo Maseko still has him crying but the emergence of Shandre Campbell has softened the blow.
Maseko, 20, left SuperSport for Mamelodi Sundowns in the off-season, becoming the latest to switch to their city rivals after Aubrey Modiba, Grant Kekana, Teboho Mokoena, Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams in recent years.
However, Campbell who netted 18 goals in the DStv Diski Challenge before sweeping all the junior awards last season – has now moved into the first team as his replacement and had a performance on Saturday that showed a coming of age.
“He’s got great attributes, he’s a got a goal in him, he was the top scorer of the Diski Challenge, we lost Maseko which was a huge blow for me,” Hunt said about the talent after he scored a brace and assisted in a 3-1 win over Orlando Pirates.
“Thapelo Maseko that was the biggest blow, I’m still crying about it – but we have the young Campbell coming up now. That’s our club, our club is built around that and built on honesty, integrity, and hard work players.
“We might not have the best players but we have to build teams every year, as I said 17 players, new players – it’s crazy but I’m doing my best.”
SuperSporrt are now four points clear of third-placed Pirates after 15 games played in the DStv Premiership this season.
