Kaizer Chiefs‘ Under 15 head coach Jimmy Jambo has praised the organisers of the 2026 Toyota Cup saying the game has potential to unify the continent.
Chiefs will host Zimbabwe’s Scottland FC in what will be a pre-season game for the Betway Premiership side and preparation for next season’s CAF Champions League for the visitors in Rustenburg on 26 July.
The match is coming as the country is engulfed with marches, demonstrations and campaigns by South Africans for illegal foreign nationals to return to their respective native countries.
The matter has also been addressed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa who said government was focused on cracking down illegal immigration warning against vigilantism and intimidation of foreign nationals.
Speaking at the launch, the 38-year-old former Zimbabwean international said a game like this one can bring late state President Nelson Mandela’s words to reality as he hopes to see Zimbabweans and South Africans unite for one goal.
“First things first I want to give credit to Toyota for having this initiative,” said Jambo.
“Having a team from Zimbabwe when there’s now this initiative of ‘Dudula, Abahambe’ all these kinds of things that are happening.
“And having a Zimbabwean team coming in I think what Mandela has been saying Sports unites everybody.
“So, we are hoping that this game is going to help all the Zimbabweans and South Africans to be together, and you know fighting for one goal of which as Africans we need to be fighting for one goal.
“So I think this game will also help us in terms of fighting the ‘Abahamabe’ and what’s been happening currently.”
