Johnson Reacts To Mthethwa Criticism

Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Cavin Johnson says he hasn’t seen the criticism of Sibongiseni Mthethwa after Amakhosi’s 1-0 defeat to the midfielder’s former side.

Mthethwa, 29, was one of the key targets many Chiefs supporters wanted to see at Naturena after his fine performances for Stellenbosch FC last season, with many thinking he could solve the club’s midfield issues.

However, adjusting to pressure and football at the Soweto giants hasn’t seen Mthethwa replicate the performances that saw Amakhosi fans fall in love with him before his move.

After the 1-0 defeat to his former side, some fans turned on the midfielder and expressed their frustrations via social media – with Johnson admitting that he might have to have a chat with the midfielder.

“Did you see they were not happy with him today? I didn’t see that,” he told media.

“Maybe someone will tell me [and] I will have to go speak to him on a personal note and give him some feedback to make him feel like a player.

“But in saying that you only notice it afterwards, like for example you telling me now this I didn’t know about it. Maybe he knows about it already because social media is 15 seconds – I’m sure he was playing with a cell phone…

“I have to go to him, you’re telling me something that I didn’t know about. I thank you very much. It’s probably someone that I need to chat to ask him if he’s okay about that.

“But Kaizer Chiefs is a different brand, it happens to all the players. It happened many years ago, it keeps on happening all the time.

“It’s difficult to satisfy all 60 million people at one time, the only thing that satisfies them is the three points and when you lose it’s very difficult to satisfy 60 million.”
