Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Cavin Johnson says he didn’t see the latest incident of crowd trouble at the Soweto Derby where parts of fans were seen throwing objects in direction of the pitch after the final whistle.
Chiefs were leading twice but ended up with zero points, as Pirates completed the double over Amakhosi.
It was a huge opportunity missed for Chiefs, who could’ve moved into second place on the log with a win.
After the match, some angry Chiefs fans expressed their disappointment and threw objects in the direction of the coach – as has happened to Arthur Zwane and Molefi Ntseki last year.
“Were they throwing stuff on the field? Hey gents, I didn’t see. You know when you lose a game of this magnitude, and you just worry about [the result]. I didn’t see… did they throw stuff,” he stated.
“No, I didn’t, I didn’t see any guys, maybe I saw one bottle or two, but I did see police, and I don’t know who they’re protecting, me or the players.
“But ja, we want to say thank you to them for coming out. Don’t throw stones guys, it doesn’t work. But in reality, ja, we got to take the game.
“I think it would have been the same way if we had three and Pirates had two, maybe you would have seen some stones also.
“But in saying that, I thought they saw a good game of football at the derby, I don’t know when last you’ve seen five goals in a derby.
“So those are little things that you guys can write and either respect the scoreline and write properly about why we received three goals and why we scored two good goals.
“But I don’t know when last you saw five goals in a derby. I was hoping it was going to be seven, but seven to us and six to Pirates.”
