Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson says he’s happy with the output of Zitha Kwinika who’s been favoured over Reeve Frosler and Dillon Solomons of late.
In their recent run of games that’s brought seven clean sheets in eight games, it’s been one of the bright sparks of an otherwise underwhelming season.
But over the last few games, questions has been raised why the more attack-minded right backs Frosler and Solomons haven’t been used in a run of one goal in their last four games since the return of football after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations break.
“There’s nothing wrong with Reeve and there’s nothing wrong with Dillon, but Zitha has always given me the back-up, even though he’s a centre-back,” Johnson said.
“You probably know that. He gives me backup as a right-back as well, sometimes you have to play with God hey. Play him at right back and he does a job for you and he doesn’t do a bad job, you bring him back again.
“Reeve had a slight knock, not really something to take him out but we put caution to the wind as far as that position is concerned and the last two games Zitha has done really well, we haven’t had any major crosses from the right, no major player skinned him.
“He does the job that the right-back has to do so we’ll see in the future, maybe he goes back to his position at centre-back, he’s a 4×2, and he can play centre or on the right.”
