Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has heaped praise on the midfield trio of George Matlou, Samkelo Zwane and Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa in the side’s 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United on Sunday.
The three were instrumental in midfield connecting with attackers and creating chances at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Zwane going on to assist the winning goal and getting the Man of the Match award.
Khanye was impressed saying he hasn’t seen the side play the way they did against Babina Noko in a while, crediting the trio as the ones who helped Amakhosi get the victory.
“I think after a while Kaizer Chiefs had combination in the centre, well done to Matlou, Samkelo Zwane and also Mthethwa,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“Like I usually say you will never win a game without midfielders holding the ball, midfielders that are comfortable and can get to the front three. Well done to Kaizer Chiefs with the three midfielders.
“Kaizer Chiefs in the first half they looked pretty. It was the first time I saw them combine with those short passes. If they had to play long, yes they did.”
Khanye also believes that the absence of coach Nasreddine Nabi on the bench might have also helped lessen pressure on the players. Nabi is serving a red card suspension which he received after the 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows.
“I think maybe the coach not being on the bench helped some players they had less pressure because they were variations in their game in the middle,” added Khanye.
“There was a balance. Well done to them for winning.”
