Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia says new coach Khalil Ben Youssef has a had a say in the players signed by the club in this current transfer window and revealed how he targeted three high profile players.
According to Kadodia the trio of Tashreeq Morris, Gaston Sirino and Bandile Shandu were the first to be signed by the Tunisia-born coach – with two being a reunion after Youssef coached Morris and Sirino at Kaizer Chiefs last season.
The striker exited mutually while Sirino’s contract was not extended at Naturena and Shadu became a free agent after his contract at Orlando Pirates expired.
Kadodia said club management have done transfers in consultation with their new coach, as they prepare for domestic and CAF Confederation Cup football.
“I think he signed three players before he came to Durban,” said Kadodia on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube.
“And every other player that we signed not just the three but in football is with consultation with the coach of the day.
“The first ones were the ex Chiefs players Morris and Sirino and then Shandu from Pirates although he was on a free zone. Basically those were the first three players that he targeted.”
‘I Equired About Mabasa & Shalulile’
The chairman also revealed there are still areas the club wants to reinforce including upfront. He admitted that he wanted to sign either former Pirates forward Tshegofatso Mabasa or former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile.
“I made the enquiries [about them],” added the chairman.
“I’ve been told from the agents concerned that their first preference is to go into Africa and they will address it thereafter.
“So I don’t want to put the pressure on them but I’d love to have either one of them.”
