Kanu On Whether Zungu & Mthethwa Will Play Vs Downs

AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has ruled new signing Sandile Mthethwa out of this afternoon’s Betway Premiership tie against Mamelodi Sundowns while Bongani Zungu has an outside chance of facing his former side.

Usuthu announced the arrivals of Sandile Mthethwa and Bongani Zungu last week with the coach revealing that former Orlando Pirates man will only play in January. With Zungu, “Kanu” said it might be possible for the midfielder to face his former side, however warned that the 32-year-old still has work to do as he hasn’t played competitively since leaving the former champions at the end of last season.

The coach said Zungu had his first training session last week with the club, but they are monitoring him and if he is ready, he will play.

“Mthethwa will play in January,” said Vilakazi.

“With Zungu I’ll be honest this is the first training session on the field. We were at the gym yesterday so we still need to see his condition and we will act accordingly.

“If he is ready for the game, he is ready, why not. But if he’s not it’s not a train smash because as I’ve said the competition is very high and there are players who were there, and they were doing very well.

“So, we just monitor his condition.”
