Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande believes that part of the things that are wrong at his former club is the lack of patience from fans towards the coach and the players adding that the new coach needs to be given space and time if he is to succeed at the club.
The club is currently under the guidance of interim coach Cavin Johnson following the departure of Molefi Ntseki in October. Though the club and Ntseki parted ways on mutual grounds the coach left under a cloud with no results coming and supporters turning violent at matches.
Katsande spoke to IDiski Times Writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 128 of the newspaper where he said the coach should be given at least until the end of the season before rate cards are pulled out as putting the coach under pressure is just as good as putting players under pressure and they may not be able to perform to their best abilities.
“Whoever is going to be chosen by the management as a new coach, give him the support whether we lose three, four to nil just give him that period, he’s cooking” Katsande told IDiski Times.
“So we don’t need to put him under pressure. I want everybody to support whoever has been chosen by the management. The management won’t fail you because they’ve done the interviews and chosen somebody fitting into their identity, their philosophy. So we just need to give him support so that it can also rub onto players”
“When the players are comfortable the players are going to perform. We are starting all over again. We understand we need to hit the ground running but we also need to understand that football is a process. Success doesn’t happen overnight, it’s about repetition. Now there is a new coach, don’t judge him after five games, let’s see how he wraps up the whole season then we can judge if we are still continuing with him. Then we are building on something”
“We have to support him because no coach or player goes to the field wanting to lose. We also need to be more patient. We are going at them all the time. They will stay in their shells and be scared to come out, perform and die for the team, being scared to commit mistakes. They won’t want to be singled out. We need to stick by them and learn from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid on how they deal with their players”
