Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze has acknowledged his side’s improvement in the Betway Premiership but feels a club of their stature deserves better.

Last season, the gap between league winners Mamelodi Sundowns and Amakhosi, who finished ninth, was a massive 41 points.

This season, however, third-placed Chiefs are just 14 points behind the current log leaders, the Brazilians, and have secured qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

Kaze says they performed well during their league campaign up until midseason. While he is delighted with the improvement in their points tally, he maintains that Chiefs should be aiming even higher.

“Yeah, I would say that the league this season, there was not any dominating team in the league this season,” said Kaze.

“Everyone was competing and I believe that as well we were very close until probably late January, but as well it’s a lesson that we learned from what we could have done differently maybe to stay in contact with the local leaders.

“But if you see about the difference between the points that we have now [this season] comparing with the previous seasons, it’s true that there is a big difference, but as well this team deserves better things.”
