Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has provided an injury update on long-term absentee defender Rushwin Dortley.
It’s been a year since Dortley last played an official match for Chiefs as he suffered an injury beginning of last year. The left-footed centre back had a great start at Chiefs where he even earned a Bafana Bafana call-up for the AFCON qualifiers.
The injury saw him missing the whole of this season including the recent AFCON and the FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He is on the verge of missing the World Cup as well. His absence has been felt in the Chiefs defence.
In his absence lately, Amakhosi managed to win five Betway Premiership games on the trot before their run was halted by Polokwane City on Saturday evening as the two sides played to a 0-0 stalemate at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
After the goalless draw against Rise and Shine, it ended Chiefs’ five matches winning streak, Kaze mentioned that Dortley has returned to training but not sure how long it will take for him to get back into the pitch.
“That is the question that will be directed to the medical team, but last week he started to be with us, to touch the ball,” Kaze told the media.
“I’m pretty sure he is not far from returning.”
Chiefs remained in third place with 46 points from 24 matches and take on arch-rivals next in the Soweto Derby on Sunday, 26 April.
