Kaze On Mdu – It’s Something We’re Correcting

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cedric Kaze says they are working hard to help Mduduzi Shabalala reach his potential after an impressive display in the 4-1 win over ORBIT College.

The 21-year-old is widely considered one of the most talented players at the club and scored two goals with one assist on Tuesday evening, while fellow academy product Mfundo Vilakazi was also on the scoresheet.

However, with only one goal and no assists prior to last night’s game, there were question marks about his end product – for a player who also has made his senior international debut.

“Shabalala is a player that has a very big margin of progression, he is still 21 years old, and he can improve in so many areas, and one of them, as a number 10, he needs to contribute more on the areas he’s supposed to help; goals and assists,” Kaze said.

“Sometimes to find the right decisions, the right pass and I would say there were probably some moments in the past when he gets inside the box, he was taking more touches than needed.

“But it’s something we’re correcting every day and the good think with him, he’s an unbelievable player and he’s willing to learn every day.”

Shabalala has featured 92 times for Chiefs since making his professional debut – with 11 goals and six assists to his name.
