Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze believes the reason South Africa has not seen the best of Thabo Cele yet is because of the injuries and fitness.
Cele is one of the three new players signed by Chiefs in January this year after leaving Russian side Fakel Voronezh. Though he has hit the ground running at Naturena the 28 year old has been hampered by injuries featuring in only 11 league matches.
Kaze told IDiski Times senior writer Matshelane Mamabolo in edition 203 of the newspaper that the condition the midfielder was in when he joined the club wasn’t satisfactory however will be at his very best next season.
“He’s a player who has not yet reached his full potential with us,” Kaze told IDiski Times.
“We have not seen the best of him yet because when he joined us he had not been active for a long time. We got him to play a lot and then he got injured.
“But I believe he will play a crucial role for us next season when he’s had a good pre-season because he’s a very solid player with fantastic experience.”
The coach who also doubles as head coach Nasreddine Nabi’s interpreter added that Cele is also a good influence on and off the field especially to his younger teammates who he shares his careers experience with.
“He’s a player who plays with passion and gives everything even in training,” added Kaze.
“Off the field he is a leader who brings the players together and his passion is infectious. Thabo is technically and tactically very sound and gives our team a different dimension due to his ability to keep the ball.
“The younger players look up to him because he’s been in Europe and he is good at sharing his experiences.”
