Khanye Makes Chiefs-Khune Claim

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says he still doesn’t understand why the club released veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune as he believes the latter still had something to offer the club.

Khune’s 25-year-old stay at Naturena came to an end at the end of last season after his contract was not renewed.

The 37-year-old legendary shotstopper had been with Amakhosi since he was 12 and was told they would engage with him over a possible role in the senior technical team as a token of appreciation for his service. That hasn’t happened with the current technical team deciding on someone else, a decision Khune said he holds no grudges over.

Khanye believes that if the former Bafana Bafana number one was given support and played regularly, he’d have helped the side.

“I don’t understand why Chiefs had to let Khune go,” Khanye told iDiski Times.

“I believe that if [Denis] Onyango at the age of 39 can play at [Mamelodi] Sundowns, Khune at the age of 36 training properly, training regularly he’d have helped them. But unfortunately, majority of the players there do not deserve to play there, half of that team, actually that whole team.

“I mean loan them or sell them, there are teams that need those players the likes of Magesi and Marumo Gallants. I mean [Bongani] Sam for example, injured, that’s why I have been questioning their scouting.”
