Rayners Fires Sundowns Past Ex-Club Stellies

Mamelodi Sundowns extended their lead at the summit of the league with a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch at the DHL Stadium on Wednesday evening.

In a fluent performance from the visitors which marked new head coach Miguel Cardoso’s first league match in charge, the 1-0 scoreline was flattering for Stellenbosch.

They created a host of chances against Steve Barker’s side but it was ironically they player signed from Stellenbosch who found the all-important goal.

From an acute angle after 18 minutes, Iqraam Rayners netted his 12 goal of the season which set the tone for the game.

Denis Onyango’s save from Andre de Jong was as good as it got for the home side from leveling matters as Masandawana managed to secure an important three points.

It moved them three ahead of Orlando Pirates, who now have a game in hand over the reigning champions.

It marked Stellies second league defeat of the season as they remain in fourth in the standings.
