iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye highly rates coach Nasreddine Nabi’s work so far but believes Kaizer Chiefs will only finish in the top eight this campaign with no trophy.
Amakhosi have endured a tough decade without any silverware and brought in Nabi to reawaken a sleeping giant this season. The side was knocked out of the Carling Knockout Cup and sit in eighth position on the Betway Premiership log with seven points in five matches.
Khanye says the coach has done a great job in reviving the players’ character, believing in young players and improving the speed in which they play with though the former Amakhosi winger reckons Nabi will finish in the top eight this season but won’t win any trophy.
“There are some positives, and I’ll give it to him for that,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.
“There is speed in his team and another thing I noticed is that his team scores. I mean they scored four against SuperSport [United], three in 20 minutes against AmaZulu, two against Magesi and the fact that they are able to come back in matches is a positive. In past seasons, if Chiefs conceded two goals they wouldn’t come back.
“He can probably fight for the top 8 in the Betway Premiership because the league is weak if we are being honest, there are also clubs worse than Chiefs. And Kaizer Chiefs are under pressure from players to coaches I don’t think they can afford to not be in the top 8 again.
“Sometimes it’s not about the quality of the team but character. Just like the game where they conceded two goals and came back and scored two themselves against Magesi.
“Character helped them to that and they know what’s at stake so top 8 yes, but they are not going to win a trophy, not even the Nedbank Cup.”
