New Kaizer Chiefs signing Langelihle Phili feels his dream has come true after finally putting pen-to-paper and turning out for a team he grew up supporting.
The 21-year-old became an Amakhosi player this week in a player-plus-cash package involving Ashley Du Preez and Given Msimango moving to Stellenbosch.
Phili came through AmaZulu’s development before joining Stellenbosch in July 2023 after an impressive Engen Knockout with Usuthu U18 being named Engen Knockout Challenge player of the Tournament.
During his time at Stellies, he racked up 46 appearances, scored seven goals, laid two assists, and scored all of those goals last season, and was named Stellies’ Player of the Season.
Speaking to the club’s website, Phili admits that he hails from a household of staunch Chiefs supporters and is happy at fulfilling his dream of signing for the club.
“I had two seasons with Stellenbosch and now a I am overjoyed to be here at Chiefs,” he said.
“The first thing that came to mind was my grandma, who has sadly passed away. She supported Kaizer Chiefs and I always used to watch them with her when I was young.
“Everyone at home supports Amakhosi, so I thought it would be a good move for me to join the team I grew up supporting and being here feels like my dream has really come true.
“I can’t wait to meet everybody and start training with the rest of the team and the coaching staff.”
