Khanye Questions Riveiro After Sekhukhune Defeat

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has questioned Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro including his team selection against Sekhukhune United, saying the Buccaneers are too inconsistent.

Pirates have collected eight points from a possible 15 in the last five league match. The two wins came against Polokwane City and Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby.

Their loss to Sekhukhune this past weekend came at the back of the victory in the derby and they dropped to fourth place on the log tied on 33 points and Babina Noko ahead in third place.

Khanye noted that the defeat will hamper the Buccaneers’ chances at finishing in the top two, and, while also applauding Sekhukhune coach Lehlohonolo Seema game plan, questioned Riveiro’s changes for the encounter.

“Orlando Pirates are very inconsistent,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.

“This game against Sekhukhune was a good opportunity for them to solidify second place and a Champions League spot. Well done to Lehlohonolo Seema for a great game plan. His team was solid. They had a clear plan of how they were going to beat Pirates.

“Pirates are inconsistent. They suddenly changed far too many players in their line-up. Kabelo Dlamini hasn’t been playing, he played. Thabiso Sesane hasn’t been playing since last year, they played him. Why did they change a winning team? What has Thalente Mbatha done in his short career to warrant a starting place in such a big club?

“A lot of things at Pirates do not make sense when it comes to selection. When they were chasing the game they suddenly realised that they have Karim Kimvuidi and Lesedi Kapinga on the bench. They should have started with Kimvuidi!”
