New Leaders In HWBSL

There were only three fixtures in round six of the Hollywoodbets Super League this past weekend with other clubs having players in the senior national team, that has travelled to Abuja for the first leg of the last round of the Olympic qualifiers against Nigeria.

University of Johannesburg (UJ) rose to the top of the log with 13 points following their 3-2 win over City Lads at Isaac Wolfson stadium on Saturday. Shannon Macomo, Gugu Dhlamini and Ayesha Moosa were on target as the Orange Army came from a goal down to get the victory. The home side had taken the lead through Lutho Gabuza Magobiyane while the other goal came from Ashley Booysen. Lads are now in 12th position on the log with five points.

Copperbelt Ladies continued their unbeaten run, as they showed no mercy to Thunderbirds Ladies beating them 6-1 in Lebowakgomo on Sunday. Thandi Rameri scored a hat-trick, while Thembi Munyuku got a brace and Nomphelo Yakhuphi also netted in the high scoring match that saw he Limpopo side move up to third spot on the log. They are now tied on 12 points with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies ahead of them and University of Pretoria behind them. Anathi Yose scored the consolation for the visiting Thunderbirds as they remained at the bottom of the log with no points.

Elsewhere Richmond United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 defeat of First Touch Academy at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium. The Northern Cape-based outfit are back in top half of the table, in fifth place with 11 points while the Academy remained in 11th place with six points both from six matches.
