Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cavin Johnson says Mfundo Vilakazi is the only player in the first-team squad who can be considered a youngster.
Youth products Wandile Duba (19), Mduduzi Shabalala (20) earned starts in the 0-0 draw against Cape Town City at Athlone Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Aden McCarthy (20) and Samkelo Zwane (22) were unused substitutes in the 0-0 draw which saw Amakhosi spurn the chance to close in on second place in the league.
When asked about the four DStv Diski Challenge graduates in the squad over some more senior figures, Johnson stated that he felt the game required those specific players.
“In some moments it’s the cloth you have at Kaizer Chiefs, and I think if you don’t give them opportunities because the showing at training what we’d like to have and you sort of tend to box differently,” Johnson said.
“Every game is a different box, you’re facing a different opponent, so you have to use them, use them wisely.
“I think the only youngster we have at the moment is Vilakazi, anything older than 16 is ready to play football. So that doesn’t bother me [having younger players in the squad] they should be ready for football.”
Chiefs take on second-placed Stellenbosch on Tuesday evening at the FNB Stadium at 19h30.
