Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says the club’s new coach Nasreddine Nabi reminds him of former mentor Ernst Middendorp with his style of play.
Middendorp had two stints at Naturena with the first one between 2005 and 2007 and the second between 2018 & 2020 where he led the side to a second-place finish in the league after being pipped to the title by Mamelodi Sundowns on the final day of the campaign.
With Nabi being brought in to awaken a sleeping giant, Khanye has not been impressed with the Tunisian mentor in his time so far, saying his style of play is just like that of the Cape Town Spurs coach and his opinion is uninspiring.
Chiefs are currently in ninth place with 12 points on the Betway Premiership standings after nine matches.
The iDiski TV analyst believes the long ball game is not how Amakhosi are supposed to play.
“The new coach is more or less like Ernst Middendorp with too many long balls and that’s not how Chiefs is supposed to play,” Khanye told iDiski Times.
“If they were losing whilst they were playing well, we’d have hope. I didn’t want to judge Nabi while I didn’t know him, he’s typical North African coach, plays long balls and crosses, goes to the referee and fights and influence other technical team member. And the players now none of them have character, not even the attackers.
“It’s only [Gaston] Sirino but look at his age and who is going to pass him. His situation is similar to that of Khama’s [Billiat] because Khama was average because of the environment.

“Chiefs is disjointed. It’s out of the picture I need to be honest.”
