Khune Sets Impressive PSL Record

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune will become the first player to feature in at least one match in 17 consecutive Premier Soccer League seasons after making the starting XI against SuperSport United.

Khune, 36, extended his contract ahead of the 2023/24 season, but Brandon Petersen was picked as Molefi Ntseki’s number one this season.

However, with Petersen not in the squad against Matsatsantsa, Khune was given a rare start.

He made his first appearance in the PSL on 25 August in 2007 in a 1-1 draw with Jomo Cosmos and made 281 appearances since, as per Transfermarkt.

In all those appearances he has kept 134 clean sheets and he will hope to add another against former coach Gavin Hunt.

Chiefs are currently on a four-match unbeaten run and sit in seventh place in the DStv Premiership, two points behind SuperSport, who have a game in hand, and 10 behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
