Kutumela – Why I’m Not Disappointed About Downs Stint

New Richards Bay striker Thabiso Kutumela has opened up about his time at former side Mamelodi Sundowns saying he is not disappointed that he wasn’t there longer.

The 31-year-old joined the reigning league champions in 2021 and spent two seasons there, winning the treble – league title, the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies. Prior to this move, the Limpopo-born forward had impressed at Maritzburg United (now Durban City FC) where he scored 28 goals in 74 matches.

Kutumela played 32 games in all competitions during his time in Tshwane before being sent on loan to Cape Town City and speaking to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 168 of the newspaper, the former Baroka FC hitman said while he believes in timing, he was also there and helped the team win the treble and importantly the cup that tends to elude Sundowns, the MTN8.

“I’m not disappointed with what happened [leaving],” Kutumela told iDiski Times.

“Because I won a treble in my first season. I played maybe 75% of the matches and helped the team achieve the MTN8, a cup they had never won.

“So, I’m not disappointed with it. As I said, football is about time. Maybe it was my time to move on.”
