Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine believes that they have on obligation to return the club to continental glory.
Since being crowned African champions in 1995, the Buccaneers have fallen short of continental glory over the years, only ever coming close again in 2012/13 as they lost to 12-time winners Al Ahly in the final after a 1-1 first leg draw before the Egyptians’ dominant 2-0 second-leg triumph.

Despite domestic cup success, winning five of their last six finals, Pirates have struggled on the continental front, with the 27-year-old shot-stopper urging his colleagues to pay homage to players of yesteryears who have laid a foundation by putting the club where it belongs in Africa.
“I think our message to ourselves, every time is, Pirates is a very huge club,” Chaine said in his candid chat with iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in the latest edition of the newspaper.
“Even on the African continent, and the best we can do for the club is to put it back where other people have laid this foundation.
“It’s not about us trying to be a better team than any other team or something like that, but people have gone before us and made Pirates what it is today.
“Ours to do is to keep it there and even take it a notch further, I think that’s our drive, and that’s what we strive for every day when we come to training when we come to work with the coach and how much he helps us and always demands a lot from us to improve and to get better.
“To do better than we did any other time, so it’s not about how much we achieved, but it’s about how much more we can do in the near future.”
