Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has emphasised the importance of the club making it into the top eight bracket in order to avoid last season’s disappointment.
Amakhosi are still buzzing from last weekend’s memorable Nedbank Cup triumph over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates coming out 2-1 victors to make it a 14th unprecedented title in the competition.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Kwinika, the last Chiefs player to win a trophy with the club in 2015 before joining Stellenbosch FC, has urged his teammates to now switch their focus to the league as the top eight hunt continues.
“We still have a job at hand. We know we can’t celebrate for ever but we take this good feeling as the start of better things, and the road to winning more trophies starts this Saturday against Sekhukhune,” he said.
“Finishing in the top eight makes a lot of things possible.
“The Nedbank Cup win gives us even more motivation to make the top eight so that we can recreate the feeling once again. So, the most important game is always the next game.
“Sekhukhune are really doing well for themselves. They deserve respect because their league position is a reflection of how they have been performing. We will have to be at our best because both teams have a lot to play for. They are playing for a CAF spot and we want a top eight finish.”
Chiefs and Sekhukhune clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane at 15:00.
