Lebitso Discusses Fierce Competition In Pirates Squad

Orlando Pirates wing-back Thabiso Lebitso has discussed the challenge of competition for place in the squad’s line-up this season.

Lebitso started as one of five right-back options when the season began, alongside Deano van Rooyen, Kamogelo Sebelebele, Bandile Shandu and Tshepo Mashiloane – with the latter having since joined Sekhukhune United on loan for the season.

With 14 matches played in all competitions, Lebitso has featured in the league, MTN8, Carling KnockOut and CAF Champions League – which they were knocked out from in the second preliminary round.

That early exit had a knock-on effect for the squad with less games available for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou to offer chances for game time, but the former Chippa United talent says the camaraderie that exists makes it a healthy environment.

“Playing for Pirates it’s important to support the next one, so as you’re saying, I started the league, it was my path at the time – and obviously when we want to win the league, we need to work together, so whoever plays, whoever is selected, we support them, it’s important,” he said.

“I’s not about who can take your position, playing for Pirates, it’s about working together, we want to win trophies, we want the league and we need everyone, it’s not about who plays and who doesn’t play – so whenever you get a chance, play wholeheartedly, if you don’t you wait for your chance.”

Overall, Lebitso has amassed 27 appearances for the club with four assists and that memorable goal to win the Soweto Derby shortly after his arrival from the Chilli Boys.
