Mabena – Mofokeng Rise Inspires Me

Mamelodi Sundowns teenager Siyabonga Mabena admits the rise of Relebohile Mofokeng as a regular at Orlando Pirates is inspiring.

Both midfield talents were produced at the School of Excellence and have since made inroads in the DStv Diski Challenge and DStv Premiership since.

While Mofokeng is three years his senior, Mabena feels he’s shown what’s possible with hard work in the reserve league, which he’s adamant can propel him to greater heights.

“It inspires me because we’re from the same school when he was U19 I was in the U15 squad but I still believe I’ll get my chance to play in the first team too,” Mabena told iDiski Times.

“But I’m very happy for him to get a chance. I think I need to keep working hard in the DDC and keep scoring goals.”

The forward who rose to prominence with the South Africa U17 side at the COSAFA Cup and U17 Africa Cup of Nations insists he feels it’s just graft that’s needed from his side to get back into the reckoning in the first-team at Chloorkop.

“I think it’s not hard [to be surrounded by Sundowns stars] but you just need to work hard, concentrate, that’s all I can do,” he said.

“But in order for me to be part of these best players, I need to work and keep pushing myself.”

Mabena has scored one goal in eight appearances for Sundowns since making professional debut against Royal AM in March last year.
